Introducing Baye McPherson to the Heartland cast

Last week, we shared exclusive behind-the-scenes news about Heartland Season 15. Lou's children are growing, getting older and making changes. We are very thankful for Ziya Matheson's time as Katie on Heartland but what's next for Lou's daughter since the actor who played her has moved on from the show?

We are excited to announce a new member of the Heartland family, Baye McPherson, who will be stepping in Ziya's shoes as Katie. 

Want to know more about Heartland's new Katie? Baye McPherson, who started filming this summer, will be all over Season 15, so be sure to watch when the new season starts in October to see her.

Baye McPherson is a born and raised Canadian and also a dual citizen (American and Canadian). She is an actor, dancer, drummer…. And is also a huge lover of animals, especially her dog, Jackson.  She has studied acting for the past 4 years in Vancouver, Calgary and Los Angeles and has had the great fortune of working with some amazing teachers.

Baye has danced with Decidedly Jazz dance works (modern, jazz, ballet, West African, afro-funk) and with Alberta Dance Theatre as well as performed in school plays.  She is often seen speaking in various accents ranging from Southern to Russian and a little of everything between.  

Baye's connection to the US is through her Mom who grew up in North Carolina. She has had the awesome privilege of spending summers on the water where she learned to surf, wake board, wake surf and swim daily in the ocean.  Baye is very close with her family and friends. She loves to hang out with them by biking, building clubhouses and just being kids.

She shares a passion for acting and the movie/TV world with her Mom and sister, and they can all often be found binging TV shows or movies.  Baye is a huge Marvel fan and is who you would want on your Marvel trivia team!  She is a dedicated student, a loyal friend and a very caring, thoughtful young woman with a twinkle in her eye!

We had a chance to sit down with Baye McPherson to ask her a few questions:

How do you feel joining the Heartland cast for Season 15?

Baye McPherson: I am thrilled! I have been acting for 3 years and to book a role on a show that is loved around the world has been a dream come true!

Can you tell us about your time filming on set this season?

Baye: It has been such an amazing experience!  I will admit I was more than a little nervous on my first day but everyone was so welcoming and kind that I felt right at home with my new TV family! I am always so excited when I'm going to set and would not trade anything in the world for that feeling! 

Can you give us a sneak peek of what we can expect from Katie?

Baye: Katie is loyal, kind and a little bit feisty (just like her mother!) and she will always put her family and friends first! I'm super excited for everyone to see what's in store for her this season!
