A 23-year-old Ottawa man has been charged with several firearms-related offences after allegedly firing a handgun at a fleeing vehicle following an altercation with another man on Wednesday.

Ottawa police say it happened on Debra Avenue, near Meadowlands Drive East and Prince of Wales Drive, just after 12:30 p.m.

An argument between two men spilled out onto the street, police said in a media release issued Thursday morning.

One of the men fled in a vehicle and the other man fired a single shot at the vehicle, police said. The driver of the vehicle wasn't injured.

The victim then called 911 and the guns and gangs unit investigated.

The 23-year-old man was arrested without incident and search warrants were executed by police at two separate addresses. The handgun used in the incident was not recovered, police said.

The man was charged with discharging a firearm, pointing a firearm and other firearm-related offences. He was expected to appear in court Thursday morning.
