Andrea Pardy warns of Sem Paul Obed's release from prison
A Labrador man with a violent past has been released from prison, prompting police to issue a warning that he is at high risk to reoffend.
Sem Paul Obed was serving time in a federal prison for assaulting Andrea Pardy.
Obed assaulted Pardy in 2012, while she was working at a bar in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
Pardy told CBC that she has spent the last two years trying to regain the comfort and confidence that was shattered when Obed attacked her.
For now, Obed will be living in Halifax, but Pardy said she wants to make sure people in that city know how dangerous he can be.
If I walk by somebody at night and I know that there's nobody else around, I get a very uneasy feeling come over me. I don't think I'll ever shake that. I don't think it will ever change.- Andrea Pardy
"I've been using Facebook and putting his picture out myself, just so people don't forget what he looks like and what he's capable of," Pardy said.
In August 2012, Pardy was working alone at the Sand Bar in Happy Valley-Goose Bay when Obed walked in and asked for a beer. Pardy told him the bar was closed.
"He didn't speak, he just walked inside the bar. And I knew with the look on his face that I was very much in trouble," Pardy said.
Obed beat her, until she was able to bite him and run away.
While the bruises have healed, Pardy is still affected by the attack.
"If I walk by somebody at night and I know that there's nobody else around, I get a very uneasy feeling come over me. I don't think I'll ever shake that. I don't think it will ever change."
Police in Halifax have issued a warning about Obed's release.
"Mr. Obed has been assessed as very high risk to reoffend, in a sexual and violent manner. So we really want our citizens to know that this individual will be here and to take precautions if they deal with him," said Const. Pierre Bourdages of the Halifax Regional Police.
Obed is to obey certain conditions, including refraining from drinking alcohol or entering a bar or liquor store.
