Crown appeals Obed decision
The Crown is appealing a judge's decision in Halifax to not impose a peace bond on a convicted sex offender.
Last month Halifax police went to court to try and have restrictions placed on the movements of Sem Paul Obed. Obed was released from prison in November, and police fear he is at a high risk to re-offend.
But a provincial court judge dismissed the peace bond application, saying there was no "present fear" that Obed would seriously harm anyone, and that the Crown provided insufficient evidence.
Police served Obed with the appeal notice on Friday at an addiction centre on Gottingen Street in Halifax. Obed served 70 months at Dorchester Penitentiary for sexual assault, assault and attempted murder. The appeal will be heard on February 24.
