Assault victim upset with police investigation
A female bartender in Happy Valley-Goose Bay who was brutally attacked last week is wondering why it has taken police four days to release a description of her assailant to the public.
Andrea Pardy was closing up at the Sand Bar early on the morning of Aug.16 when she was attacked and beaten by a man without warning.
Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP released a statement on Monday about the attack.
RCMP Sgt. Scott Morrison said police are looking for a man with a medium complexion, about five feet eight or five feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing an orange hoodie with gray sleeves and a yellow ball cap.
Morrison said that police were investigating the incident behind the scenes.
"We're following up leads and because of the investigative avenues that we're taking we're hoping to hopefully come up with something more than we have now and that's why we're releasing more details now."
Beaten over and over
Pardy didn't think anything was wrong as she closed down her establishment last Thursday until the man came behind the bar, hit her in the face without warning, and continued to beat her over and over.
"While he was attacking me it felt like he was trying to knock me out for some reason," recalled a shaky Pardy. "He didn't take anything from the bar, he didn't even tell me he wanted anything. He just - oh my."
During the assault, Pardy managed to bite the man's arm or hand, break his glasses, and then escape.
Pardy's head, neck and shoulders are covered in bruises.
Afraid to go outdoors
Pardy said she's been nervous ever since the attack and she's afraid to live in her apartment, go to work, or go outdoors. She and her 10-month-old daughter have been staying with Pardy's mother.
'This situation was horrific, and he's still out there somewhere.' —Andrea Pardy, assault victim
"I'm scared. I'm scared all the time every day because I don't know if this was personal, if it was planned, or even what his intentions were. I just know that they were horrible."
Pardy said she won't feel safe until the man who attacked her is arrested.
"This is really important. This situation was horrific, and he's still out there somewhere."
