Suspect arrested for brutal bar assault in Labrador

Police in Labrador have arrested a man accused of beating a bartender in Happy Valley-Goose Bay earlier this month.

Police in Labrador have arrested a man accused of beating a bartender in Happy Valley-Goose Bay earlier this month.

Sem Paul Obed, 41, is facing charges of assault causing bodily harm, as well as two breaches of probation, connected to what has been described as a brutal assault at the Sand Bar nightclub.

Bartender Andrea Pardy spoke out earlier this month about the incident, complaining that the police had been too slow to release information about the suspect and the investigation.

Three days later, police released an edited version of the surveillance video that was recorded on a camera at the Sand Bar. The video shows a man confronting Pardy behind the bar, but was edited to not show the alleged assault.

The video also showed the man chasing after Pardy as she ran outdoors.

RCMP said Obed was arrested in a wooded area on Monday afternoon.

He is being held in custody and is expected to appear in provincial court in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Tuesday.
