CBC Musical Nooners July 9: Roy Forbes
Don't miss this Canadian folk icon this Thursday at the CBC Vancouver Plaza
Thursday's CBC Musical Nooners features folk guitarist, vinyl enthusiast and former broadcaster Roy Forbes.
A native of Dawson Creek, B.C., Forbes' distinct voice, rhythmic guitar playing and introspective lyrics have won him praise from aspiring blues players and critics alike.
From the early days of small coffee houses and opening act slots with artists such as John Lee Hooker, The Earl Scruggs Revue and Santana to eventually selling out his own shows and headlining most of the major folk music festivals in Canada, Forbes has developed into one of the nation's beloved acoustic performers.
A voracious songwriter with a distinctive voice, Forbes' material has been covered by performers such as Sylvia Tyson, Valdy, Cindy Church and Shawn Colvin.
The CBC Musical Nooners is a series of free, live music concerts from noon to 1 p.m. at the CBC Vancouver Plaza on Hamilton Street (between West Georgia and Robson).
