Police ID man fatally shot in Scarborough Village

A man was killed in a shooting near the corner of Eglinton Avenue E. and Markham Road in Scarborough Village early Thursday, police say.

Toronto police have identified a man killed in a shooting in Scarborough early Thursday.

Adam Christopher Moncrieffe, 34, of Toronto, died in hospital, police said in a news release. He is the city's 83rd homicide victim of the year.

The shooting happened around 12:15 a.m. at the intersection of Eglinton Avenue E. and Markham Road.

According to police, Moncrieffe was shot while he was walking in the area. The shooter was travelling in a vehicle, police said. 

Officers found Moncrieffe with gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The homicide unit is investigating.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have information is being asked to contact police.

Police are also appealing for help from businesses with video surveillance and drivers in the area around midnight with dashboard camera video.

"Your information could be crucial in helping us solve this homicide," police said in the release.

"We understand that incidents like this cause concern within the community. Please know that we are dedicating all necessary resources to this investigation."

Police have not released a suspect description.
