Man in his 60s dead after fire in Toronto's east end
Firefighters found man on 2nd floor on Friday evening, Toronto Fire Services say
A man in his 60s is dead after a fire in the city's east end on Friday night, Toronto police say.
Police said the fire broke out in a home on Logan Avenue near Danforth Avenue. Firefighters were called to the home at shortly after 5 p.m. and have since put out the blaze.
Toronto Fire Services said when its crews arrived on the scene, they encountered heavy smoke on the second floor. During a search of that floor, they found a man and immediately removed him from the property.
Paramedics rushed the man in critical condition to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The fire was contained to the second floor of the house, which is a semi-detached. No one else was home at the time, Toronto Fire Services said.
Ontario's Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
Roads that were closed in the area have since reopened.
