Comedian Jackie Pirico on stage at the River Run Centre in Guelph, Ont. (Vicki Mahony)

Last week, q embarked on a field trip to Guelph, Ont., where host Tom Power took the stage at the River Run Centre to put on a live show for the Hillside Inside Festival.

Jackie Pirico was one of the guests who joined Power on stage. She's a Guelph-born, Toronto-based comedian who's part of the comedy collective Laugh Sabbath. She performed a short stand-up set for us and shared how studying linguistics at university helped her find her voice for comedy.

Pirico's new comedy album, Dream Phone, is out everywhere now.
