In Certified, comedian Jan Derbyshire asks the audience to assess her mental health

Jan Derbyshire is many things: a comedian, a playwright, a performer — and she's also been certified insane six times.

Now, Derbyshire has turned her experiences with the Canadian mental health system into a one-woman show called Certified, which is equal parts comedy, theatre and cultural critique. In the show, Derbyshire asks her audience to act as her personal mental health review board, with 30 minutes to assess her sanity.

She joined host Tom Power live in the q studio to talk about her show, her experience with mental health and her fight against mental illness stereotypes in the media.

Derbyshire's show Certified is a part of the Progress Festival. It runs from February 13 to 15 at The Theatre Centre in Toronto.
