Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent

A severe thunderstorm is in effect for the Windsor-Essex County and Chatham-Kent regions.

"Isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and continue into this evening," says Environment Canada in an alert issued just before 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Environment Canada warns heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when there's potential for thunderstorms producing large hail, damaging winds or torrential rainfall.

A separate heat warning is still in effect for the same regions.
