It's not over yet. Environment Canada has extended its heat warning for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.

The weather agency warns high temperatures are expected to reach the low 30s with humidex values reaching the low 40s until Thursday.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

A similar warning was issued by Environment Canada prior to the Canada Day weekend. At the time, the weather agency said it was not certain when temperatures would come back down.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit's heat warning also remains in effect "until further notice."

"A heat warning is issued when two consecutive days are forecasted to have a daytime high temperature greater than or equal to 31 C and a nighttime temperature greater than or equal to 21 C or a humidex greater than 42 C," according to WECHU's website.

A cool down is expected Friday with the passage of a cold front.
