Police suspend ground search for missing woman in Pickle Lake, Ont.

The Ontario Provincial Police say they are continuing to investigate the disappearance of Charnelle Masakeyash in Pickle Lake, but have called off their ground search.

The Ontario Provincial Police say they are continuing to investigate the disappearance of Charnelle Masakeyash in Pickle Lake, Ont. but have called off their ground search. 

Masakeyash, 26, was last seen on Oct. 31. Police said she was reported missing on Nov. 8. 

The emergency response team with the provincial police was called in along with a helicopter on Nov. 13. A spokesperson said the police ground search was suspended on Nov. 19.

Officers spoke with community members and leaders and "they've searched everywhere around the Pickle Lake area," a police spokesperson said.

The investigation continues to be treated as a missing persons investigation with a detective sergeant from the Sioux Lookout, Ont., detachment handling the case.

Volunteers from Masakeyash's home community of Mishkeegogamang, next door to Pickle Lake, along with members of nearby Cat Lake First Nation are continuing their ground search.

Masakeyash is described as 5'7", 130 lbs, medium build, straight, shoulder length black hair, usually worn in a ponytail, and has brown eyes.
