Regina's Maxine Goforth upset by new Clayton Bo Eichler charges
Eichler is in custody for allegedly killing two women in 2013, now accused of sexual assault in 2012
Clayton Bo Eichler appeared in a Regina court on Friday to face new charges involving a violent sexual assault in which the victim survived.
Eichler, who is in custody and accused of killing two women in 2013, is now facing charges relating to an alleged sexual assault in 2012. The new charges are aggravated sexual assault and overcome resistance by attempting to choke.
The 33-year-old made a very brief appearance in court, sharing only a few words with his lawyer. Eichler's next scheduled court appearance is Dec. 31, where he's expected to appear by video.
Eichler is accused of violently assaulting a woman, who was 24 at the time, in June of 2012. He is currently on remand, accused of first-degree murder in the death of Kelly Nicole Goforth, 21. Her body was found in a back alley in the 1700 block of McAra St., east of Regina's downtown, on the evening of Sept. 25, 2013.
While in custody in connection with that case, police laid another first degree murder charge against Eichler relating to the death of Richele Lee Bear, 23. Bear vanished in August 2013. Her body has not been found.
Maxine Goforth reacts to new charges
Maxine Goforth, the mother of Kelly Goforth, said she was very emotional when she heard about Eichler's most recent charges.
"I was crying," Goforth said. "I called my sons, as I always do. And then I got a phone call from my little brother and I just cried it out."
The alleged sexual assault occurred in 2012, one year before Goforth's daughter was killed. She said it's difficult to consider all the hypothetical scenarios.
"I pray that, you know, if he's responsible for other ones then the Lord will bring it out," Goforth said. "That's all I can do is pray. That's all I have been doing, trying to keep my little family intact."
Goforth said she feels the police are doing an excellent job.
"You can tell they're going on and on with their investigation, not only for Kelly but for other victims," she said.
Now that Eichler has been charged with another incident, Goforth wonders if there are more victims.
"It made me wonder, what did he do to my baby?" she said. "Did she die like that? Because I don't know yet. I don't know the circumstances surrounding her death or what led to her death."
Goforth said she's trying to stay positive.
"I'm not going to let her die for nothing," she said. "(Kelly) was a beautiful baby. An angel to me. My baby."
