Regina businessman Wayne Ast has thrown his hat into the ring in the mayoral race.

He's a part owner of Pinoy Tayo Filipino Foods, which operates Kuya Wayne's Sari Sari Store in Regina.

Ast says if he's elected, he'll form a multicultural steering committee to address community development and deal with what he sees as growing social and racial inequality in the city.

He says he's opposed to the provincial government selling SaskTel.

Also running for mayor is the incumbent, Michael Fougere as well as three other challengers, including Jim Elliott, Evangeline Godron and Tony Fiacco.

Municipal and school board elections are Oct. 26.
