Call for nominations open for Regina municipal election

A call for nominations has opened up in Regina for the 2016 municipal election.

Candidates have until Sept. 21 to file papers

A call for nominations has opened up in Regina for the 2016 municipal election.

Candidates looking to run for mayor, city councillor or school board trustee will be able to submit nomination forms until Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. CST.

So far, four mayoral candidates have already entered the race for the Queen City:

  • Incumbent Mayor Michael Fougere.
  • Jim Elliot, a Regina man known for his environmental advocacy work.
  • Tony Fiacco, brother of former mayor Pat Fiacco.
  • Evangeline Godron, a Regina playwright.

Nominations will be accepted between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. On Sept. 21, they will be accepted only between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Nomination forms and information packages are available at the Elections Regina office or on their website.

The election will be held Oct. 26.
