- Joel Clow later pleaded guilty to manslaughter after a previous murder conviction was overturned.
Prince Edward Island RCMP have charged a 46-year-old man with murder in connection to the discovery of a woman's body in Pleasant Grove Friday evening.
RCMP said Joel Lawrence Clow of Pleasant Grove appeared in court and has been charged with one count of murder under section 235 of the Criminal Code of Canada and one count of indecently interfering with human remains.
RCMP have not released the woman's name, but CBC News has learned the victim is 40-year-old Traci Lynch.
Lynch was originally from Pictou, Nova Scotia, but had been living in Pleasant Grove with her son.
Friends told CBC News Lynch began dating a lobster fisherman by the name of Joel Clow about a year ago.
RCMP have not said what the relationship was between the accused and the victim. A suspect was arrested Saturday and at that time, Sgt. Leanne Butler confirmed the suspect and victim knew each other.
RCMP say Route 220 has reopened to traffic, but officers remain on the scene investigating.
Clow remains in custody and is expected to return to court at 1:00 p.m. Monday.
