RCMP have one man in custody after woman's body found in Pleasant Grove
Ages of the suspect and victim not disclosed, nor their relationship to each other
RCMP in Prince Edward Island have confirmed they have a male suspect in custody following the discovery of a woman's body in Pleasant Grove Friday evening.
The body was discovered in a wooded area on a property along Pleasant Grove Road according to RCMP Sgt. Leanne Butler.
She says the suspect and victim knew each other.
"I can say a person is now in custody. The RCMP, during the course of our investigation has found that this is not a random act and therefore no risk to the public at this time," Butler said.
The ages of the suspect and victim are not being disclosed, nor their relationship to each other.
"For the integrity of the investigation, those details are not being released," she said. "Further information will be released as the investigation continues."
An autopsy on the body was scheduled to be performed Saturday afternoon in Halifax.
RCMP have closed part of Route 220, and cordoned off a section of the road. Traffic is being turned around from Route 6 to the end of the road.
"It's a very active scene here, as you can see, and we believed the scene will be held until at least tomorrow," Butler said.
Police said forensic evidence was being collected and statements taken.
Butler said more information would be released on Sunday.
