A body was discovered on a property along Pleasant Grove Road in the community of Pleasant Grove on Friday, RCMP Sgt. Leanne Butler says.

The body has not yet been identified and will be transported to Halifax for a forensic autopsy that is expected to be performed on Saturday, police say.

"When a death is found that could be suspicious, it's treated as such until we can prove otherwise. So at this time we're treating the death as suspicious," she said.

Queens RCMP were called by a person who lives in the area on Friday afternoon. Butler says during the course of the investigation, a body was found in the wooded area.

RCMP have closed part of Route 220, and cordoned off a section of the road. Butler says it will likely remain closed well into Saturday as police continue to investigate.

Traffic is being turned around from Route 6 to the end of the road.

An RCMP mobile command unit was on scene Friday evening, along with canine units.

Police say there is no danger to the public and an update on the investigation will be provided Saturday afternoon.
