A 22-year-old Kings County man has died after he was hit by a vehicle on Bear River Road in northeastern P.E.I.

Police responded to the incident in the early morning hours of Aug. 11., said P.E.I. RCMP Sgt. Shaun Coady.

The man was airlifted to Halifax, Coady said, but later died.

"Unfortunately there are occasionally pedestrian-involved collisions in this province," Coady said. "I wouldn't say that it's common, but it does certainly occur."

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, he said, and no charges have been laid at this time.

Coady could not say at this point whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
