About 700 Maritime Electric customers remain without power in Charlottetown as of 6:15 p.m. Saturday following a motor vehicle accident.

Charlottetown police say the collision happened on Riverside Drive and was investigated with an accident reconstructionist on scene.

Police asked drivers to find alternate routes due to street closures in the area.

A spokesperson from Maritime Electric confirmed the accident was the source of the outages affecting Hillsborough and the Kensington Road area. The outages were first reported around 3:30 p.m.

There was also a citywide power outage in Summerside Saturday, but power was restored around 3:30 p.m.
