One person has died after a single-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway in Albany, P.E.I., early Friday, according to RCMP.

Police say the crash happened around 5 a.m. near the Albany Y — that's where Highway 1 and Highway 1A meet. All four people in the car were taken to Prince County Hospital.

Scott Ferris, the senior communications advisor with the P.E.I. RCMP, said two people were seriously injured and another had minor injuries.

"As it was taking the off-ramp, the vehicle went off the road," he said. "It does appear the vehicle lost control, and it did roll over."

Ferris said the stretch of highway was closed for about three hours on Friday morning so RCMP collision analysts could do reconstruction work at the scene.

RCMP first believed the vehicle was traveling from Borden-Carleton, but after further investigation, police have said the vehicle was coming from Charlottetown.

Ferris said RCMP are awaiting the final report from the reconstructionist, and other parts of the investigation are still ongoing.
