The former director of communications for Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil appeared in court today.

Kyley Harris is facing charges related to a domestic incident on May 9.

Harris made a brief appearance in court Wednesday. He will enter a plea on the assault charge July 22.

He was placed on conditions until that time that require him to abstain from alcohol and to stay away from the victim.

Harris was initially placed on administrative leave with pay but later fired.

At the time, McNeil said Harris was terminated because he waited four days to tell the government he was facing charges.
