Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil’s former communications director has been formally charged with assault.

Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil’s former communications director has been formally charged with assault.

Kyley Harris, 35, was fired on Monday. Last week it was revealed that he’d been accused of domestic assault, but had waited four days after his arrest to tell the premier’s office.

A charge of assault was sworn by police Wednesday.

According to conditions of his release after arrest, Harris is not allowed to consume alcohol or other intoxicating substances. He is forbidden from contacting the alleged victim.

Harris is due in Halifax provincial court on June 18.
