A vehicle stolen this week from Whitehorse's Ingram neighbourhood has been recovered by police — a little worse for wear.

RCMP say the Nissan Pathfinder was involved in a single-vehicle rollover at about 2 a.m. on Thursday, in the Whistle Bend neighbourhood. It had been reported stolen less than a day earlier.

The accident happened at the intersection of Casca Boulevard and Aksala Drive.

It's not known whether anybody was hurt in the accident. RCMP say a witness reported seeing four people running from the wreckage.

RCMP are doing a forensic analysis of the vehicle.

Police say a few hours after the accident, a second vehicle was reported stolen in Whistle Bend. It was found about half an hour later in downtown Whitehorse.

Both thefts are still under investigation. RCMP Inspector Archie Thompson says, in a news release, that car theft happens too often in Whitehorse.

"We are examining the underlying factors behind these crimes of opportunity," Thompson said.
