Man with blow torch robs Whitehorse gas bar
Male suspect stole $490 from Goody's Gas Bar in Porter Creek
A man brandishing an unlit blow torch robbed Goody's Gas Bar in Whitehorse's Porter Creek neighbourhood Sunday night.
At around 10 p.m. Sunday, the suspect entered the store, brandished the unlit plumber's blow torch and threatened the employee, demanding cash, police say.
While a female accomplice remained outside as a lookout, the male suspect removed about $490 in cash from the till before fleeing the store on foot toward Centennial Street North.
The clerk was not injured during the robbery.
Cary Goodman, who owns the store, said the employee did the right thing.
"In the heat of the moment, let him do his thing, give him his stuff, get him out and get on," he said.
"No use getting hurt over a few hundred dollars or so. We got a good video of him so we think we may know who it could possibly be."
Goodman said the store has now started keeping all the money in a safe since the robbery.
Suspects sought by police
A search of the area by Whitehorse's police dog, Crash, failed to find the suspects.
The male suspect is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall and possibly of First Nations descent. He was seen wearing a dark hoodie and hat with a Monster energy drink logo displayed on the front. Police have released an image of the suspect from the store's video surveillance.
The female suspect is described as wearing a grey hoodie with white lettering on the front.
