A 65-year-old man was arrested in Tsiigehtchic, N.W.T., and charged with a single count of uttering threats after a weapons-related threat triggered a community-wide lockdown on Thursday, according to RCMP.

Police received a complaint that afternoon that a person had made threats to get a firearm and "discharge it around town," RCMP said in a news release Friday morning.

The hamlet issued a lockdown order, police said, and officers from the detachment in Fort McPherson, N.W.T., headed to the community, which doesn't have its own RCMP detachment.

RCMP said the suspect in the incident was found locked in his own home, and they determined he likely wasn't armed. They say they got a warrant to enter the home and arrested the individual without incident.

No firearm was found, police said.

RCMP say the man is expected to appear in court in Fort McPherson in April.
