A 25-year-old man is facing firearms-related charges after RCMP responded to a call about a handgun being pointed at a security officer outside of Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife.

A brief news release from the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority on Saturday evening said that "a person entered the facility in a hostile state and RCMP were called."

RCMP said they responded to that call around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The suspect fled the scene, they said, and with the help of a police dog team they were able to arrest the individual within 20 minutes of the complaint.

A Yellowknife man is charged with pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief under $5,000, and failing to comply with a probation order.

The individual has appeared in court and has been remanded into custody, said RCMP.
