#ThrowbackThursday: The first St. John's Maple Leafs game
From the fall of 1991, Jonathan Crowe reports on when AHL hockey arrived in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Toronto Maple Leafs had made the decision to move its American Hockey League affiliate to St. John's prior to the beginning of the 1991-1992 season.
In this edition of our #ThrowbackThursday vintage video, the CBC's Jonathan Crowe reported on the first game that was played by the St. John's Maple Leafs at Memorial Stadium.
Toronto Maple Leafs' top brass are featured in the video, and we thought it timely to post, seeing that senior officials of the Montreal Canadiens were in town this week. The team's AHL affiliate will play at the Mile One Centre for the next two seasons.
