Nick Earle and Joe Coffin are still in high school, but they have the souls of old blues guitarists.

They have just released their first duo album, Nick Earle and Joe Coffin: Live at Citadel House. The album is a collection of blues standards, some of which date back to the 1930s.

Earle and Coffin are also one-half of the St. John's based blues band, Stompbox.

Earle was first drawn to the blues by his interest in guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Coffin was a fan of Eric Clapton. Both then started learning the songs that inspired those two great guitarists.

They both admit their musical tastes are very different than those of their high school buddies.

"I'm pretty sure Nick is the only one who likes blues other than me," said Coffin.

"Even if it's something they [friends] wouldn't immediately put on shuffle on their iPods," said Earle, "They still come out and support our music and later realize, 'Wow, blues music is pretty good.'"
