Feeling like 'a million bucks,' Gander lotto winners joke
A couple from central Newfoundland are having a May 24 weekend celebration like no other, after they were presented with their Lotto 6/49 $1-million cheque Friday in St. John's.
Nancy and Bill Budgell of Gander bought their winning ticket over the Mother's Day weekend at an Esso station on Highland Drive in St. John's.
"I used to always say, joking around, 'I'm gonna win the lottery one of these days, one of these days,'" Nancy Budgell said after a presentation at the Atlantic Lottery Corporation building.
"Well, I did … we did."
The couple got their friend to check the numbers last weekend, after she told them the winning ticket was sold in St. John's.
Grandson makes joke about 'golden toilet'
"She was calling them off and I'm looking at them like, 'Karen, is that the right numbers?' She said, 'Yeah.' I said, 'Can you read it out again? Can you read it out again? Can I see them?'" Nancy Budgell laughed.
The couple plan on buying a house, Bill Budgell's truck is already ordered, and the Budgell's grandson has an idea, too.
"It's really cool that they've won $1-million, and I've been joking around with them, [asking] them if they could buy me a golden toilet," joked Christopher Saunders.
ALC said the couple are the fifth Lotto 6/49 winners in Newfoundland and Labrador over the last six months.
