A 13-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries when someone shot up a northern Manitoba house where he was lying in bed, RCMP say.

The bullets, shot from outside, passed through the home's exterior wall and living room wall, then into the boy's bedroom on the other side, RCMP said in a news release on Monday morning.

There were five other people in the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation home, including three other youth, but no one else was hit.

Officers were called just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday about the shooting on Linklater Road in Nisichawayasihk (also known as Nelson House), about 65 kilometres west of Thompson.

The boy was taken to the local nursing station, then airlifted to hospital in Winnipeg. He underwent treatment and is now listed in stable condition, RCMP said.

No arrests have been made.

RCMP don't believe there is public safety threat to the community as a whole, saying the residence was targeted.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call RCMP at 204-484-2837. Anonymous tips can also be called in to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submitted online.
