Man accused of drunk driving on riding lawnmower

RCMP have laid drunk-driving charges after pulling over a lawnmower in Headingley, Man.

A man is facing impaired driving charges after RCMP pulled him over on his riding lawnmower in Headingley, Man. 

Mounties were patrolling around 2 a.m. Saturday when they spotted the John Deere riding mower heading towards Highway 1 on Bridge Street. 

The 41-year-old male driver told RCMP he was giving his female passenger a ride to get cigarettes at a nearby gas station. 

RCMP say the man told them he felt he was being responsible by not driving a car.

Nonetheless, he was arrested for impaired operation and charges are pending. 

He was released on a promise to appear in Winnipeg for court on Aug. 23.

RCMP note that it's illegal to operate any motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
