Selkirk man airlifted after tumbling into river on riding lawnmower

A Selkirk man had to be airlifted to hospital after falling over an embankment and into the Red River while on his riding lawnmower Friday.

The man sustained serious injuries after tumbling about six metres down an embankment and into the river. He had to be rushed by STARS air ambulance to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.

A spokesperson for STARS said the air ambulance was called in just before 2 p.m.

Firefighters had to perform a high-angle rescue to save the man, who required critical care transportation to Winnipeg.

Selkirk is located about 34 kilometres from Winnipeg.
