Red Deer RCMP are searching for two men involved in a carjacking on Tuesday that saw a woman threatened with a machete.

A woman was standing near her Volkswagen Jetta on Nash Street in Red Deer about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when she saw a Ford Escape crash into a nearby building.

Two men then approached the woman, with one of them wielding a machete and demanded her keys.

They then sped off in her car.

Police began a search and the Jetta was found nearby, having been crashed into a dumpster.

The woman's purse was found in the car but money had been taken and the suspects had fled.

Police later learned the Ford Escape had been reported stolen out of Sylvan Lake earlier in the day.

The first suspect is described as Aboriginal, in his 20s, standing five foot four with short, messy black hair and a thin build. He was wearing gloves, jeans and a baggy, dark-coloured sweater.

The second suspect is described as white, about 20 years old, five foot six high with a thin build. He was wearing a grey sweater and jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
