Good deed rewarded with assault and carjacking in Red Deer, say police
Victim's light brown 1997 Safari van has still not been recovered
A Good Samaritan who offered a ride to two people claiming to be late for work was assaulted and robbed by his passengers Sunday morning in Red Deer, Alta., according to police.
On Sunday, Red Deer RCMP say two suspects approached a man in the parking lot of Johnstone Plaza on 67th Street around 7 a.m.
After a friendly conversation, police say the suspects asked the man for ride.
The three got into the man's van. After a few blocks, the victim let the passengers out in the area of 67th Street and 67th Avenue, where the suspects assaulted the man with a baton or pry bar and stole his wallet, cellphone and van.
The victim suffered a hard blow to the head and other injuries to his face.
