Surrey RCMP are investigating after a male stabbing victim was found at the Newton bus loop early Saturday morning.

Police believe the attack happened just after 1 a.m. about a block away from the TransLink bus exchange in the 13700-block of 72 Avenue.

The victim suffered two stab wounds, but is expected to survive, according to police.

The B.C. Ambulance Service said its Advanced Life Support unit was not necessary in this case, indicating the injuries may not be too serious.

Members of Surrey RCMP's General Investigations Section could be seen checking the area for video surveillance, and a police dog handler swept the scene in a search for clues.

It's unclear what led to the attack, and the suspect fled the area before police arrived.

Police say the stabbing victim made his way to the Newton bus loop and sought help from a TransLink bus driver, who alerted Transit Police. (Rafferty Baker/CBC)
