Police look for 'armed and dangerous' suspect following fatal shooting in downtown Windsor
A man died after police found him with a gunshot wound Monday morning
Police are looking for a suspect wanted in connection with the homicide of a 53-year-old man outside of a homeless shelter in downtown Windsor Monday.
In a news release, police said their major crimes unit figured out that the victim was shot at after a verbal fight with another man.
The suspect then fled the scene before officers arrived.
The incident took place around 7 a.m. Monday, in front of the former Water World building at the Wyandotte Street East and Glengarry Avenue intersection. The building houses the Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H4).
Once police arrived on scene, they found the victim unresponsive and with a gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Police have not identified the victim.
Police say they have surveillance images of a suspect, who is described as a mixed-race man, between 5-3 and 5-5 tall with a thin build.
When the incident took place, he had his hair pulled back into braids and was wearing a black jacket and black pants with a reflective strip on the thigh. Later, police say the suspect was seen with his braids removed, wearing a blue hoodie, black pants and red shoes.
Police say the suspect is considered "armed and dangerous" and that people should not directly approach but contact 911 immediately.
Anyone with information is also asked to reach out to police.
