The Windsor Police Service is asking for public assistance as it investigates an early Sunday morning shooting in the city's west end.

The police said it received a report about gunshots in the 3800 block of Birch Street shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday. Officers located a man with a gunshot wound in the area. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was shot following an altercation at a house party," the police said Sunday in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The service says its major crimes unit has taken over the investigation. It's believed to be an isolated incident.

Police are asking residents in the area — particularly those in the vicinity of Birch Street and Prince Road — to check their surveillance or dashcam footage between 2:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. for video evidence that may assist with the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Windsor Police major crime unit at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830.
