OPP lay murder and arson charges in connection with a fire 2 years ago in Huron Shores
Fire crews and police were called to a residence fire and found the remains of a 51-year-old man inside
Three people from the town of Blind River, located between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie, are facing serious charges in connection with a fatal fire that took place almost two years ago in the community of Huron Shores.
Police say In February 2023, emergency crews responded to a suspicious fire at a residence on Mississagi Bay Road.
The remains of a 51-year-old man were found in the home.
In a news release issued Friday, police say the East Algoma OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, continued the investigation, with assistance from the OPP's Forensic Identification Services Unit. The Office of the Fire Marshal and the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service were also involved.
The release says two people are now facing first-degree murder charges, along with arson. A third person is charged as an accessory to the crimes.
