A 41-year-old male inmate was found dead at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre on Saturday, according to the province.

The man was found unresponsive in the washroom of the jail's men's reintegration unit, which is designed to help offenders get back into the community by providing them with employment, basic life skills, and some programming like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous, the province said. It said no foul play is suspected as of Monday.

In a Monday new release, the province said corrections staff attempted life saving measures until EMS arrived. Paramedics declared the inmate dead at 11:07 p.m. CST.

The province's Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety said the Saskatoon Police Service and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service have been notified and are investigating.

The ministry said it will also be conducting an internal investigation.
