Inmate died by suicide at Whitehorse jail last month, coroner confirms

The Yukon Coroner's Service has confirmed that a 37-year-old man died by suicide at the Whitehorse Correctional Centre on Dec. 23, 2024.

A 37-year-old man died by suicide at the Whitehorse jail in December, the Yukon Coroner's Service confirmed in a news release Monday. 

The inmate died at the Whitehorse Correctional Centre on Dec. 23, 2024.

An inquest will be held into his death. Under the territorial Coroners Act, inquests are mandatory for deaths that occur while a person is in custody at a correctional centre.

The inquest on the man's death will be called in the coming months, the coroner's news release confirmed.
