Man dies in suspicious fire in Greater Napanee

Emergency crews were called to the fire at a multi-unit building on John Street on Saturday evening, Ontario Provincial Police said in a media release Monday night.

A man is dead following a suspicious fire Saturday evening in Greater Napanee, Ont., police say.

Emergency crews were called to the fire at a multi-unit building on John Street at around 8:15 p.m. that night, Ontario Provincial Police said in a media release Monday.

Paramedics took the man to hospital where he was later pronounced dead, OPP said.

He was identified Monday evening as 67-year-old Walter Lasher of Greater Napanee.

The fire is being investigated by the local OPP detachment, along with the office of the chief coroner and the provincial fire marshal.

As of 9 p.m., police had not announced any arrests or charges.
