2 people have died in fires in Windsor in a matter of days
Windsor Fire and Rescue Services says someone has died following a fire at an Ouellette Avenue apartment building over the weekend. It's the second time a person has died after a fire in the region in a matter of days.
The fire service said Tuesday the occupant of the apartment on the 16th floor of 920 Ouellette died after being admitted to hospital with serious injuries. The fire occurred on Sunday morning. The exact cause of death is not known. Windsor Fire and Rescue Services did not indicate the age or gender of the deceased.
On Monday, a 71-year-old woman died in a fire at an apartment building on Sandwich Street. Windsor fire says a smoke alarm outside of the area where she slept was not working. Damage to the building is estimated at $250,000.
The fire service says out of four major fires in recent days, only one had a working smoke alarm.
