19-year-old charged in Manitoba double homicide
Suspect arrested in Minegoziibe Anishinabe after shots were fired at police, RCMP say
A 19-year-old from Minegoziibe Anishinabe has been charged in a double homicide that led to a lockdown in the small lakeshore community earlier this week.
Oryan Flamand is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, Winnipegosis RCMP said in a news release Thursday.
He was arrested early Monday morning, after shots were fired at RCMP from the residence he was in. No officers were injured.
Police said he tried to flee from the home in on an off-road vehicle but was caught.
RCMP had identified Flamand as the suspect in two shooting deaths.
Police first responded to reports of a shooting in the community near midnight on Sunday. They found an injured 34-year-old man who died at the scene of the shooting.
The body of a 52-year-old woman was found hours later in the same area.
The community was put on lockdown early Monday morning.
Flamand remains in custody.
Minegoziibe Anishinabe, also known as Pine Creek First Nation, is on the southwestern shore of Lake Winnipegosis. It has roughly 1,500 members.
