One suspect is in custody with two others still on the run after London police say a driver went on a rampage in the city's east end last week, smashing into multiple police cruisers and carjacking another motorist.

The suspect in custody, identified as a 25-year-old male from Melbourne, just outside Strathroy-Caradoc, was arrested over the weekend by a different police agency investigating a separate matter, London police said.

He faces 28 charges, including multiple counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, police said.

The wild incident began around 7:45 p.m. last Thursday along Dundas Street, east of Argyle Mall, when police say a black pickup truck drove at an officer's cruiser. The officer veered out of the way, and notified other officers.

The truck was next seen speeding westbound along Admiral Drive, prompting several Londoners to call 9-1-1 about an erratic driver, police said.

It's alleged the driver intentionally drove into two different police cruisers, causing significant damage. After fleeing with a damaged tire, police allege the truck later struck three other vehicles.

After stopping the truck near Marconi Boulevard and Trafalgar Street, police allege the driver and an unknown number of passengers then carjacked a woman and drove off in her vehicle, which later turned up in southeast London. The woman was not physically injured, police said.

On Tuesday, police announced that the alleged driver in the chase was in custody in a different jurisdiction, and was charged by way of warrant in the London incident.

Among the charges are six counts of dangerously operating a motor vehicle, five counts of assaulting a peace officer, and one count each of theft of a motor vehicle with violence and arson causing damage to property.

Two suspects remain outstanding in the incident, and police say they are seeking dash-cam or surveillance camera video from the public.
