3 boaters rescued from Lake Ontario after motorboat bursts into flames

Police with the marine unit pulled the boaters from the water and say all three were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

Three boaters were rescued from Lake Ontario Thursday after they were forced to jump overboard when their motorboat caught fire.

The Hamilton Police Marine Unit was called about the fire by a boater in distress more than a kilometre from Van Wagners Beach just after 4:45 p.m.

Police say two men and a woman were forced to leap into the water to escape the flames.

All three were wearing life jackets and were "floating near their 20-foot bowrider, which had become fully engulfed in flames," according to a media release.

They were brought int to shore where paramedics and fire fighters were also on hand.

Police say the boaters were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
