20-year-old Hamilton woman dead, 4 people injured after Airport Road crash: police

After two cars crashed into each other Wednesday night, police say, four people are in hospital with serious injuries and a 20-year-old Hamilton woman is dead.
Investigators say, at 9:54 p.m., a 19-year-old from Hamilton was driving a white 2016 Honda Civic westbound on Airport Road approaching Nebo Road with three passengers. At the same time, a 41-year-old Hamilton man was driving a red 2011 Ford Escape northbound on Nebo Road.
That's when police say the 19-year-old crashed into the passenger side of the 2011 Ford Escape.
The windshield and hood of the Honda Civic crumpled and peeled back as the windshield shattered and the airbags deployed.
The passenger side of the Ford Escape was cratered in and bent, as the vehicle sat in the grass off the road.
It's unclear what caused the crash and how fast both drivers were going. A 20-year-old woman was killed, while all others involved— the three passengers in the Honda Civic and sole driver of the Ford Escape — were taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The police are not releasing any names at this time and say the Collision Reconstruction Unit responded is leading the investigation. So far, police have not ruled out any contributing factors that may have caused the collision.
