10 must-see fashion moments from the 2025 Sundance Film Festival
Ayo Edebiri, Stephan James, Jennifer Lopez and more showed up in style at this year’s screenings and events
The Sundance Film Festival, in its 41st year, took place from January 23 to February 2 this year in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah.
Compared to the glitzier film festivals in Cannes, Venice, and Toronto, this annual gathering is decidedly more intimate and low-key. Despite rumours of a potential move, it remains an important stop for actors, filmmakers, and other industry insiders, attracting A-listers like Jennifer Lopez and Carey Mulligan this year.
Here are 10 standout looks from the festival's red carpets.
Jennifer Lopez
At the premiere of her upcoming film, Kiss Of The Spider Woman, Lopez wore a sparkling, floor-length gown by Albanian designer Valdrin Sahiti. The web-like design, styled by her go-to team, Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, was accessorized with a winter-white coat, though she left it off for the red carpet.
Ayo Edebiri
On the carpet for Opus, Edebiri was the epitome of cosy chic in a decadent cashmere coat by American label The Row (yes, the one designed by the Olsen twins). Styled with a sleek 'do and minimalist accessories, it was another winning look for the young American actor.
Chloë Sevigny
The American trendsetter delivered a series of standout looks throughout the week, including a Canadian tuxedo, but a highlight was this demure, cream-and-grey Vivienne Westwood ensemble. Styled with tall leather boots and a snakeskin-patterned bag, it was anything but your granny's knit set.
Havana Rose Liu
The model-turned-actor (and Chanel ambassador) was radiant in a Spring/Summer 2025 runway look from the French fashion house at the Lurker premiere. The black, belted jumpsuit fit her perfectly, but it was the statement feather collar that truly set the look apart.
Patrick Livesey
Melbourne-based actor and creator Livesey wore a plaid kilt, white button-up and an oversized chain necklace to the premiere of the short film Stranger, Brother.
Charly Thorn
On the same red carpet, Livesey's co-star wore an ethereal all-white look layered with cotton, eyelet and tulle — all sourced, Thorn told CBC Life, from a Melbourne shop called Sally's New and Retro Fashion. The metallic headpiece added a charming finishing touch.
Amy Forsyth
For the Plainclothes premiere, the Canadian actor stood out in an oversized, buttoned-up polka dot coat by Valentino. Paired with a collared top and sheer black hosiery, the look was both quirky and chic.
Stephan James
Working with stylist Apuje Kalu, the Canadian actor and star of Ricky looked handsome in a textured Rick Owens jacket, an Etro turtleneck, King & Tuckfield belted wide-leg trousers and Balenciaga shoes.
Cynthia Erivo
For the festival's fundraising gala, the Oscar nominee and Wicked star wore an off-the-shoulder, textured Dior skirt suit with Christian Louboutin heels. The standout accessory here? Erivo's extra-long, sparkly, embellished nails.
Sophie Nélisse
The Québécois actor and Yellowjackets star accessorized with Birks jewelry (a Canadian brand) and wore a burgundy dress with ruched detailing at the Two Women premiere — handily debunking the myth that redheads should avoid wearing red.
